Škoda Praha is going to build a power plant in Vietnam

26th November 2008 HANOI, PRAGUE (iHNed.cz) - The coal-fired power plant with a performance of 2x500 MW (in the future up to 6x500 MW) will be developed in the Tra Vinh area in the Mekong Delta. A consortium of Czech and Slovak companies, under the leadership of the Škoda Praha Company, a member of ČEZ Group, will build a coal-fired power plant in Vietnam. The project has the full support of the Vietnamese political authorities. The company has given information about it to the iHNed.cz server. The investor is a Vietnamese state-owned energy company Vietnam Electricity. They reaffirmed their intention to carry out the project with a consortium of companies led by Škoda Praha.

A coal-fired power plant with a performance of 2x500 MW (in the future upto 6x500 MW) should be developed in the Tra Vinh area in the Mekong Delta. “Financing for the project has been prepared in the form of an export loan from the Czech Export Bank; insurance will be provided by EGAP,” said the General Director of Škoda Praha, Daniel Jiřička, and added that this important part of the project is also developing satisfactorily.

Experience from China

According to Jiřička, experts from the consortium, which constitutes Škoda Power, together with the company Slovenské energetické strojárne, are working intensively on the preparation of an informational offer. “The customer should receive it in the order of a few months,” Jiřička added.

Škoda Praha anticipates, within the project, the full use of its know-how and references earned in the construction of the thermal power plant in China, Shen Tou (4x500 MW), which in 2006 successfully concluded the guarantee operation of the 3rd and 4th blocks and the company has passed over control of the plant to the Chinese partner.

Škoda Praha, as a traditional supplier of high-power energy systems, in its 53 years of existence, has designed and supplied over a hundred energy plants with a total performance of 38,000 MW to 25 countries world-wide. In the year 2005 the company became a member of the ČEZ Group. Škoda Praha from this current year is focussed mainly on the development of projects and the export of investment units, in accordance with the business and acquisitions strategy of the ČEZ Group.
